Our Romance Writers of Australia 2011 conference is over and goodbyes said for another year- Sob, sob, sob!
So much fun meeting everyone in Melbourne. So much to learn from all the talented authors who gave workshops. So many ideas to put into practise on my works-in-progress.
BUT….. so little time to fit everything in before the end of 2011 – sigh!
So please let me share a bit of the Conference Round-Up from RWAustralia’s Cruisin’ the Blog where Diane Curran said…. Wow, what an amazing RWAus conference we had last weekend. It was a fantastic celebration for our 20th anniversary – all thanks to the hard work of this amazing team of women: The Red Berets: The theme of the conference was ‘From Here to Eternity’ and I’m sure many of us will be remembering the conference for that long.
Fundraising …..we partnered with the Firefighters Charity Fund to raise money for The Otis Foundation which provides retreats for women with breast cancer and their families. Maybe it was the smouldering firemen enticing us to buy raffle tickets and bid in the silent auction, or maybe it was the poignant testimony from Tracey Anderson, but we raised a fantastic $15,000 which included a $5000 donation from Harlequin Mills and Boon Australia.
Tweetage …. #RWAus11 was this year’s hashtag for twitter, and the tweets were flying. As of 19 August, 2739 tweets had been sent using the hashtag. The second top hashtag was Bob Mayer, one of our fantastic speakers. #Mayer.
Hope to see you all at RWA’s conference next year, and can’t wait to hear all the good news from RW New Zealand’s conference which has just finished,
