1822 Dress Coat, Royal Naval Uniform, British. Brass, gold alloy, silk, wool.
Belonged to rear-admiral, reflects influence of contemporary fashions on uniform. Lapels stitched down, buttonholes non-working and edged with bands of gold lace. Fastens with 14 heavy brass hooks and eyes, additional padding in lining of chest and shoulders.
The front is cut straight across and the skirts slant back in the style of the cut-away coat. The crown over the anchor on the buttons was introduced in the regulations for 1812.
